M551 SPH

There were several proposals for new designs based on the chassis of the M551 Sheridan. One of these was a heavy self-propelled howitzer manned by a crew of five and mounting an unspecified 155 mm weapon. It had an estimated combat weight of 27,000 pounds and was expected to have similar performance to the Sheridan.

While I can't find which specific weapon is used in this proposal, the gun does bear a striking resemblence to the 155 mm Howitzer T186E1 used in the T196E1 (early M109 prototype), just without the muzzle brake. Considering this is essentially the stock gun on the M109 itself I'm proposing, that's what I've elected to use here.

Guns: 155 mm Howitzer T186

Engines: GM 6V53T Late (300 hp)

Hull Armor (mm): 15/32/13

Top Speed: 69 km/h

Crew: 5 (Driver; Gunner; Loader; Loader; Commander/Radio)
