The Holt Mk. VII was based off lessons learned from previous SPG experiments on the 2.5-ton tractor. In 1919, two vehicles were produced. They mounted the M1916 gun, as on the earlier models, and were powered by the same Cadillac engine.
The Mk. VII experimented with a new waterproofing system for the engine and electric motors. This allowed the vehicle to wade through 0.85 meters of water. The large outriggers were also replaced by smaller folding jacks. However, the waterproofing increased the vehicle's weight, limiting its speed and mobility. Holt would apply the lessons learned from this vehicle into their later designs.
This SPG is essentially a stock version of the Tier II Holt 75, but made slower and bumped up a tier. In return it would see an increase to its rate of fire.
